The Ubaye valley has preserved the wild and traditional side of many places.
Barcelonnette : Capital of the Ubaye valley , the town of Barcelonnette, located at 1,135 meters above sea level, has a character that is both southern and mountainous.
Barcelonnette is famous for its amazing Mexican villas located in the avenue de la Liberation. Of Italian, Tyrolean and Baroque inspiration, these luxurious residences, for the most part classified as historical monuments, were built between 1880 and 1930 by Barcelonnets who made their fortune in Mexico. One of them is open to the public: the Villa La Sapinière, which houses the Valley Museum , dedicated to the history and traditions of the Ubaye Valley, as well as the Maison du Parc National du Mercantour .
Aiguille de Chamberyon : The highest point in the Alpes de Hautes Provence, the needle is located in the upper valley of the Ubaye , at the northeastern end of the department. It is on a side link separating the Ubaye from the valley of Chambeyron, one kilometer from the main crest line separating the Rhone and Po basins.
The Ubaye valley : Nestled between Provence and Mercantour, the Ubaye valley is a destination of choice for the practice of outdoor activities. Wild and unspoiled, this territory of glacial origin, dominated by peaks of more than 3,000 meters, is a delight for hiking, skiing and canoeing enthusiasts. In Haute Ubaye, nature lovers will not miss the marvelous hike leading to the splendid Lac des Neufs Couleurs located at an altitude of 2,841 meters.
The Ubaye valley will also delight lovers of built heritage, with the beautiful Romanesque church of Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye , the impressive little Châtelet bridge suspended above narrow gorges, the perched fort of Tournoux, or the Abriès mill in Jausiers .
